Ancud, Chile - La Isla de Chiloe
Traveling is what we love to do. A country like Chile is very remote. We decided to go far to the southern tip of Chile and visit Chiloe, an Island. We had to pass through a bigger town called Puerto Montt on our way. The next day we took a ferry onto the island city of Ancud, Chiloe. There we explored the beaches, graffiti, animals, and markets. This was such an amazing road trip, I can't wait to go back again. It feels so strange to get that close to Antartica, check out the Chiloe penguins on the rock in one of the shots.

Maps of Santiago, Chile | Directions | How to Get to Addresses
Street Maps of Santiago, Chile
When you are looking for directions in Santiago, Chile it is hard to find the right website. While you can buy maps in libraries around the city, it is hard to find places by address only. Recently I came across Mapcity.cl which is similar to such search engines as mapquest in South America. It has precise directions to get you to where you need to go. Traveling to locations throughout Santiago,CL can be confusing, to find directions to where you need to go this is a great service. It has helped me find places among the crazy traffic of downtown Santiago. If you need to see where your hotel is located, find a good restaurant, or meet a business associate, then look no further. Once again chileloco is here to help you learn more about life in Santiago, Chile.

Happy Hour in El Colorado, Chile is the spot to be
Happy Hour in El Colorado, Chile is the spot to be. Check out the party, from the perspective of a drunken reveler. Where else can you travel to the after party by ski or board and dance the night away with babes and DJs. Then you can ride home to your casa, hotel or apartment on your snowboard or skis.

Villarica Grafitti, Region de la Araucania
We found these great pieces in random streets in Villarica, in the ninth region of Chile or Region of the Araucania. It is in the south of Chile and known as the monkey tree region (araucarias), it is also known for its many lakes and massive volcanos.

El Colorado, Chile & Farellones - Snowboarding & Skiing from the pro riders at Funner Films. This is from 2005, the first year we went to Chile to Snowboard. We moved to Farellones with plane tickets for 3 months later and got ready to ride. Little did we know what amazing adventures awaited us after we flew into South America on a summer ski trip. (Check out the afterparty at Happy Hour)

Backcountry Snowboarding and Skiing in Valle Nevado & El Colorado, Chile
This backcountry run is called Los Moais. Amazingly it is accessible from a chairlift from either El Colorado or Valle Nevado Ski Resorts. You do have to hitchhike a ride back up the mountain, which has been known to take anywhere from 30 seconds to hours.
Backcountry Snowboarding and Skiing in Valle Nevado & El Colorado, Chile is super fun. The locals call one of the best zones to ride Santa Terecita, Santa Tere, or Santa Teresa in honor of the Chilean Saint Teresa. The powder is so dry it blows into the air as you ride through it.

Juggling in Santiago
Aspire to be a professional juggler? Then go work the stoplights of downtown Santiago, Chile where you'll be competing for cambio (change) with dancers, street performers, bums, window washers, and people trying to sell bottles of water, candy, or fruits and vegetables. The juggling is my favorite, although its pretty convienient to buy a kilo of oranges or palta (avocado) as you're stopped at the semaforo (traffic light).
This guy works in el centro, day in day out, juggling for a living and he has some skills. One day there were 3 jugglers all at the same crosswalk doing coordinated stunts.

Timelapse Road from Santiago to Valle Nevado Chile - 40 curves
This is a video timelapse of driving down the mountain in our Jeep from Farellones, Chile (which has the ski areas Valle Nevado, La Parva, and El Colorado) to the city of Santiago. There are animals to dodge, dangerous curves and crazy drivers. The road has numerous curves, around 40 in rapid sucession. With the Andes mountains descent from 11000ft (3000+ Meters) to 6000ft (2000 Meters) its an adventure every time you drive it. Watch it all in fast motion timelapse mode and enjoy the sights and sounds.
If you travel to Chile to ski, snowboard, or just party then you will most likely be driving up this road to hit up the closest ski resorts from Santiago, CL airport. When we stay up there we'll stay in the town of Farellones, where you can shred straight back to your home after the world famous Happy Hour in El Parador.

Michelle Bachelet and Alien Graffiti
Michelle Bachelet is the female president of Chile. Apparently the sign maker doesn't approve of her political decisions. This is right as you enter downtown Santiago into the central district. There is some interesting Alien graffiti spray-painted below. I went to Spanish language class a few blocks from here at the Instituto Chileno Suizo de Idiomas y Cultura and received a certificate of Penguino for my duration of 60 hours.

Chile Chocolate Bars

My favorite candy in Chile is the chocolate bar Super 8 or Super Ocho. It has a similar taste to a kit kat or those Little Debbie treats. This candy is available anywhere they sell candy, like those kiosks on the street in Santiago. Super ocho is even sold by street vendors in the public buses around the city. I love Chocolate from chile. Another favorite candy bar is Sahne-Nuss. This candy should be sold in the states, I don't really get why its not sold there. The Sahne-Nuss is a much more premium priced sweet than Super Ocho, I've paid about 250-350 (50-65 cents) Chilean pesos for Super Ocho and like ($1.00-$1.25)500-800 pesos for the smallest Sahne-Nuss. The King-sized one shown here costs about 3.000 ($6.00 us).

Pichilemu - Cool Surf Spot
Pichilemu is a sweet surf spot on the beach 4 hours outside Santiago. It is the favored surfing location for much of the Chilenos that reside in the Santiago Area, Region Metropolitana. Punta Lobos (Wolves Point) is where the best of the best hop in the waters in search of big waves. The name comes from the sea lions that gather on the rocks. In Spanish they are called Sea Wolves. Its scary to surf off in between a bunch of rocks on your way to the break. In bad weather you risk smashing against large rocks just attempting to get in the ocean.

The beach has a skate ramp to skateboard first and get hot, then surf some waves to cool down. Its amazing, surf and skate in the same spot.

A set of timelapses from beautiful Chile. The final one with the red sunset is from El Colorado, Chile. It took over an hour of freezing in the cold to get that shot, but it was so worth it!

Sebastian Camus is a pro snowboarder from Chile. This part chronicles his International travels with us through Chile and Argentina. He's one of the funniest and funnest guys I know. He's founder of Herba clothing and splits his year between Chile and Davos, Suiza (Switzerland). Once you know Camus you never forget him and he's one of those guys who is always down for an adventure and some snowboarding.
The shots of the girls was at Valle Nevado's famous swimming pool, and supposedly one of them was a Miss Chile candidate, but we have no facts to back this one up, so believe what you want.

Life in Chile for a Gringo
First of all I'm a gringo living in Santiago, Chile. I am married to a Chilena (Chilean women are hot). I am also a professional snowboarder and filmmaker. I first came to Chile on a snowboarding trip to South America three years ago and am currently here for my 4th time. Its been rough learning Spanish, since I didn't have great motivation to learn before I decided to visit. But I am currently taking Spanish classes in el centro(downtown) and will attempt to add a bit of spanish to help you learn as I progress in my knowledge, speaking skills, and vocabulary. A main goal of this blog will be to relate the experience of what life is like in Chile, and some obsevations from a foregner's point of view. Since I am a professional filmaker in action sports, I will add numerous videos and photos to give rich detail of what life here is truly like.
*Added Bonus: This won't be boring like 99% of blogs out there. There's always something new to see in Chile.
